Pre-Fall 2025 finds We11done immersed in cult classic Hollywood films from the 1990s. The Seoul-based brand is a master of bricolage and the Celluloid Dreams collection weaves together the neo-noir attitude of the teen black comedy Heathers, the grunge vibe of slacker epic Empire Records, and the retro-futurist sensibility of the sci-fi parable Gattaca to offer a subversive take on uniform dressing.
Mini kilts, knee-high socks, and other school uniform staples worn by young rebels and the immaculate black tailoring favored by the genetically engineered cyborg employees of the Gattaca Aerospace Corporation form the basis of a look that is anything but basic. Regulation plaid pleats are transfigured with asymmetric hems and layered over pants. Vintage-inspired flannels are worn cropped. And classic single-breasted blazers are updated with drawstrings and teamed with hoodies.
In the world of We11done, deconstruction is a guiding principle and nothing is ever as straightforward as it might first appear. A criss cross tunic features a halter made from a belt loop waistband, a decorative motif that also appears on the hems of work jackets and wide-leg trousers. Skirts and dresses sprout extra sleeves, while button-up shirts have cuffs made from collars.
Celluloid Dreams also evolves last season’s trompe l’oeil exposed underwear waistbands via a number of “doubled” styles, including bilayer cardigans and shirts and trench coats with two collars. Taking cues from the DNA double helix, twists are another key design, seen on sleeveless polos, bomber jackets, and a range of bubble hems. The twisted ladder shape also appears in a new version of We11done’s logo and a Bear Code graphic that sees We11done’s popular teddy character fashioned from the characters that form the basis of genetic code.
