Is it postmodernism when disruptions, whether optical or technical, sever clean lines in the contemporary? The WE11DONE Autumn Winter 2023 collection, entitled “Twisted Classics”, centres on the posed question and employs genre-bending techniques to wardrobe staples. We hybridise conventions, push the boundaries of innovation, and harmonise the discordant to subvert the wearer’s perception of what is appropriate.
Drawing influence from the transformative sensibilities behind minimalist and postmodern art movements, the collection looks beyond purely seasonal expectations and adopts unexpected features that are superimposed onto garments. From perfectly tailored wool coats with surprising vertical ripples pleated on the front, to satin capes and bombers with a single blown-up toggle clasp, the designs are a mash-up of disparate characteristics that result in unique pieces.
New iterations of the wave satin separates from Spring Summer 2023 have been developed into structured pencil skirts in gold and silver leather. Other moments in gold and silver include cycling shorts, halter-neck mini dresses, and sleeveless jumpsuits featuring traditional biker jacket details. Knits are crafted from the softest of mohair, resulting in backless dresses, and deep V-neck sweaters with exaggerated shoulders.
Conventional dress codes must evolve as the world becomes increasingly connected. Our aim is to create garments for a gender-neutral world while also twisting the traditions of the past.
