A little bit Sex Pistols and a little bit school uniform, We11done’s Pre-spring 2025 collection offers
punk fashion, but not as you know it. Kicking off the Korean brand’s 10th anniversary celebration,
Plugged-in is a bricolage of global musical influences including English punk rock,
American grunge rock, and the lesser-known genre of Joseon punk, a fusion style that emerged in
Seoul in the 1990s. Skinny ties meet skaterpants with a dash of neon pyramid studs in this playful
clash of references.
Plugged-in’s crisp poplins mixed with camouflage, stripes, vegetable-tanned leather, and washed
denim capture the heady birth of Joseon punk thirty years ago this spring, when a graffiti and
paint-splattered underground club in Seoul’s Hongdae neighborhood held a tribute concert to
commemorate the one year anniversary of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain’s passing. Soon local
bands including Crying Nut, No Brain, and Super Market developed a musical style wholly their
own that featured catchy hooks about self- determination driven by distorted guitar and
propulsive rhythms.
Joseon punk offered young concertgoers–many who dressed for the club by modifying their
school uniforms—a joyful release from Korea’s heightened social and academic pressures in the
mosh pit. Plugged-in’s regulation vests and pleated skirts sprout circular barbell piercings, as
do hoodies, t-shirts, and muscle tanks. Punk hardware turns up in many unexpected places.
Extra-long wallet chains criss-cross cargo pants as well as voluminous dresses. Grommets are
transposed from belts to cropped motos, oversized trucker jackets, tunics, tights,
multi-buckle boots, and We11done’s signature Touch bag.
The collection exudes a DIY ethos. A cropped plaid shirt gives the iconic grunge pattern
a contemporary twist. Strips of looped and knotted jersey achieve structural effects, while white
collared shirts feature self-tie details. Triangle snap clips cinching baby tees and stacked pyramid
stud cuffs add pops of color. Plugged-in also offers We11done’s cheeky interpretation of band
t-shirt graphics, including a trompe l’oeil grommet harness and a teddy bear sporting a colorful
mohawk. Elsewhere, sparkling airbrushed logos put a punk spin on the brand’s traditional symbols.
For Plugged-in’s lookbook, We11done collaborated with a talented creative team led by creative
director Jae Huh, photographer Mok and stylist Youngjin Kim who have extensive experience
working with BTS, BLACKPINK, and top cultural institutions like Seoul’s DDP. Together they captured
the stylistic energy of Joseon punk rhythms, with music appreciated by the whole body rather than
just the ears.
